Drying is a process of evaporation. Thus, the less water left in the carpet the quicker it dries. An extractor that removes close to 100% of the water it uses in cleaning will allow the area to be reoccupied sooner. Faster drying also keeps mold and mildew and their resulting odors and potential allergen effects from forming. In a nutshell, the quicker the carpet dries, the sooner activity can be resumed and the better the indoor air quality will be.
The Steamin Demon's unique, patented vacuum system is able to provide extremely strong vacuum because of its high efficiency. It only needs to lift water 8 inches (compared to 3 to 4 feet for the typical walk-behind extractor and at least 25 feet for a box-and-wand extractor). The further a vacuum system must lift and pull water the less efficient it will be.
From minor damages such as toilet and sink overflows, to major water pipe breaks, the Steamin Demon is a highly effective flood extraction tool. And since it continually pumps the recovered water directly down a drain, there's no need to stop and dump a waste tank, saving time, enhancing worker safety, and preventing more extensive property damage
The term "High-Flow Extraction" in The Steamin Demon High-Flow Extraction Cleaning System refers to both the high flow of water volume and air (vacuum) volume compared to other portable extraction carpet cleaning machines.
For 30 years cleaning equipment manufacturers sought to improve cleaning results by building ever-more-powerful equipment. Power for heat, pressure and vacuum. However, water flow, the most critical factor in carrying suspended soil from the carpet, has been kept to a minimum, at between 0.5 and 1.5 gallons per minute. This is because of concerns about over-wetting the carpet.
Field testing has demonstrated for a fact what common sense suggests: As more water is used to suspend and flush dirt and soils out of carpet, more soil is removed, the appearance is improved, and since fewer abrasive soils are left in the carpet, it lasts longer. Until the Steamin Demon, however, no portable carpet cleaning system had a vacuum system efficient enough to effectively remove large volumes of water.
How much water flow does the Steamin Demon use to clean with?
Most municipal water delivery systems deliver between 4.5 and 5.5 gallons per minute (GPM). With the built-in restrictions of the Steamin Demon, the actual flow rate usually runs between 3 and 4 GPM.
How much water pressure (PSI) does the Steamin Demon use?
The Steamin Demon cleans using whatever water pressure is provided by the municipal water delivery system. It varies, but typically runs between 50 and 80 PSI. But PSI alone does not tell the full story of how the Steamin Demon cleans. More important is the Impact Rate, which measures a combination of PSI and water flow. (For more on Impact Rates, see Pressure vs. Water Flow.)
What if the water flow (or pressure) at a job site is low?
Occasionally, the hot water tap at a job location may - either by design or because of pipe corrosion - offers restricted flow. If this occurs, turn on the cold water as well. Doing so should give you sufficient water flow of at least 3 GPM.
With all that flow, won't I quickly run out of hot water?
So long as you are cleaning in a home or facility that has a full-size hot water tank, it is very unlikely that you will run out of hot water. This is because even as you are cleaning only about one third of the time is spent with the water on. Some facilities, however, utilize miniature (3-5 gallon) hot water tanks. In this case, you will end up using tepid to cold water for much of the job. Your results will not be as good as if you had hot water to use. However, so long as you are using a good-quality prespray, and unless you are attempting to restore a really "trashed-out" carpet, you will still achieve very satisfactory results with the Steamin Demon.
How far from a water source can the Steamin Demon be operated?
The standard unit can be operated up to 250 feet from a water source. For longer hose runs, an optional dual-discharge pump system is available which will allow you to operate up to 400 feet from a water source.
What is the capacity of the discharge pump?
Depending on how much hose is attached, the discharge rate is between 4.5 and 5.5 GPM. With the optional dual-discharge pump system, the discharge rate is between 6 and 6.5 GPM.
Won't the Steamin Demon leave the carpet wet?
No. The Steamin Demon features an amazing recovery system that extracts over 94% of the water and will leave the carpet dryer than systems that clean using a small fraction of the water. Drying times on commercial carpet average 2-4 hours, often less. On deeper pile residential carpets, the drying time typically runs 6-8 hours. This is comparable to drying times experienced with truckmounts.
What is the CFM and water lift of the Steamin Demon vacuum system
The Steamin Demon uses a three-stage Ametek-Lamb vacuum motor that is rated at 105 CFM (cubic feet of air per minute) and 118 inches of water lift. But the important thing to understand about the Steamin Demon's vacuum system is that only 8 inches of water lift is required to move the water from the carpet to the recovery tank. This, and the size of the recovery tank (one-third cubic foot) are the keys to the incredible effectiveness and efficiency of the Steamin Demon's vacuum system.
In field tests that compared the Steamin Demon to conventional portable extractors, the Steamin Demon removed, on average, nearly 2.5 times the amount of soil; its production rate was over double that of the conventional extractors; and it removed over four times as much soil per hour of operation. The Steamin Demon has not been tested officially against truckmounts, but in unofficial performance comparisons it seems to perform on a roughly equal level. In water damage restoration, it has been shown to outperform truckmounts in water extraction.
Can I clean stairs and furniture with the Steamin Demon?
Yes. An optional stair and/or furniture cleaning assembly is available. It features 25 feet of vacuum and solution hose.
What about repair and maintenance?
The Steamin Demon is designed to be a very low maintenance machine. A comprehensive, illustrated repair manual and parts list comes with each machine, and our nationwide network of factory-authorized representatives and dealers are available to solve any problems you are unable to solve yourself.
How long has the Steamin Demon been made?
The Steamin Demon is based on a direct hookup machine that was developed over 30 years ago. The patented "high-flow" characteristic was developed in 1996 by Mike Downey, inventor of the Steamin Demon.
The only difference between the Steamin Demon and Steamin Demon II - There is no pre-spray hose and the front cosmetic glass is covered. Does include the 50' dump hose and 50' of hose to interface to the faucet. Please call me for additional questions or email.
