Hitachi s-806 sem, field emission electron microscope

UpUp

Subject: Hitachi s-806 sem, field emission electron microscope
with large 6“ stage, upgraded for
for picture taking/archiving, etc.

The unit was serviced last time aprox. 6 months ago by HISCO (Hitachi), after it was re-installed at our place 3 years ago and since about 6 months we keep it running in standby mode, still under vaccuum.
Many pictures have been taken since over the last 2-3 years, also from uncoated materials like sand, radiolaric materials, metalic objects, wavers and many other specimen. Great pictures may be taken already at low voltage settings, like 2 KV - or even lower - and even those came out in very nice quality.
************************************************************************************
The S-806 utilizes a field emission electron source (a cold cathode) which has a source brightness of 100 to 1000 times higher than normal thermionic sources, like a hairpin filament, etc. It has also a much longer life span of up to many thousands of hours.
************************************************************************************
The unit original designed for wafer inspection is very much usable for many other applications in electron microscopy. Due to the fact that a cold cathode (FE – field emission) is being used, the possible beam damage is very much minimized and wafer coating or coating of other specimen is often not necessary. We have taken pictures from sand type or “radiolaric type” specimen at 1 or 2 KV with great results.
This huge electron microscope has
1 Turbo Molekular pump by Edwards
The vacuum is as much as 10 -7 Pascal.

The weight of the complete set-up is approx. 2200 kg or 5000 lbs.
The column part by itself does have a weight of approx 1650 kg. = 3700 lbs.

Magnification, as per Hitachi brochure, is possible from 50 to 100,000 times (larger magnifactions have been performed as well) at resolutions from 60 Angstroem at 25 KV to 200 Angstroem at only 1 KV (used resolution specimen).
************************************************************************************
The unit allows many different scanning modes, from full frame rapid scan to photo scan, dual magnification, dynamic focus, waveform monitor, oblique and many others.
************************************************************************************
************************************************************************************
The acceleration Voltage is 0.5 to 25 KV. The lens system is a stage version of electromagnetic type. The stigmator is a X, Y 8-pole electromagnetic type and the scanning coil is a 2-stage type. The specimen stage is x or Y controllable from 0 to 150mm, Tilt by 0 to 60 degrees, Rotation by 360 degrees, Z control from 5 to 35 mm with WD up to 30 mm as well (continously).
************************************************************************************
A sputtering system by Balzer, Switzerland/Lichtenstein) is also available for sale, but we never put it in operation. We also may provide a “Barry” leveling system which we did not set-up either, because we have very solid grounds on which the microscope set-up is now sitting on.
************************************************************************************
This unit was originally installed at a very famous and world wide known semi-conductor manufactor. We had the unit later re-installed Byx Hitachi/HISCO of Germany.
