THE MIX-N-MASTER SILO OPERATION
THE MIX-N-MASTER VOLUMETRIC DISPENSING SYSTEM ALLOWS THE MASONRY CONTRACTOR TO USE STANDARD MASONRY MATERIALS AND BLEND THEM TOGETHER AS THE JOB’S DESIGN SPECIFICATION DICTATES…ON THE JOBSITE AND AT THE EXACT TIME OF NEED. THIS SINGLE FACT OF COMBINING THE MATERIALS AT THE TIME OF NEED ELIMINATES “CLUMPING”. WHEN THE MIX-N-MASTER IS ON THE JOB…THE WASTE OF TIME AND MATERIALS ASSOCIATED WITH CLUMPING IS COMPLETELY ELIMINATED.
ON THE LARGER JOBSITES, THE MIXING OF THE MASONRY MATERIALS IS DONE BY LABORERS WHO ARE BASICALLY UNSUPERVISED…USING THE MIX-N-MASTER, TIME REQUIRED TO MIX A BATCH OF MORTAR IS VIRTUALLY THE SAME FROM BATCH TO
BATCH. BECAUSE THE MIX COMPONENTS ARE VOLUMETRICALLY DISPENSED…THE AMOUNT OF SAND, THE AMOUNT OF WATER, AND THE NUMBER OF BAGS OF MORTAR ARE ALL PREDETERMINED. AN AVERAGE 12 CUBIC FT BATCH CAN BE PRODUCED IN LESS THAN FOUR MINUTES.
SYSTEM’S COMPONENTS: LOADING SAND INTO THE SILO
1. EACH MORNING, THE SILO IS FILLED WITH 108 CUBIC FEET OF SAND, GROUT, ETC. USING THE 20 CUBIC FT SAND SCOOP, ONE MAN CAN FILL THE SILO WITH EASE.
2. ONCE THE SILO IS FILLED WITH SAND, THE OPERATOR COVERS THE SILO. THIS IS DONE WHILE HE IS STANDING ON THE GROUND,USING THE COVER CONTROL LEVER LOCATED ON THE SIDE OF THE UNIT. EACH MIX-N-MASTER HAS A SILO COVER THAT PROTECTS THE SAND FROM RAIN WATER OR OTHER EXTRANEOUS MATERIALS THAT MAY BE CARRIED BY THE WIND. BECAUSE THERE IS ONLY SAND IN THE SILO…WATER INTRUSION IS NOT CATASTROPHIC. THE WATER DRAINS TO THE SILO BOTTOM AND IS REMOVED WITH ONE CYCLE OF THE SAND DRUM…THE NEXT CYCLE SHOULD THEN DELIVER DRY SAND. THE SILO HOLDS 108 CUBIC FEET OF SAND…ENOUGH SAND FOR 36 BAGS OF MORTAR MIX USING THE STANDARD 3:1 RATIO.
ONE SILO OF SAND, 36 BAGS OF MORTAR, AND 180 GALLONS OF WATER WILL PRODUCE 4 CUBIC YARDS OF PERFECT MORTAR OR GROUT. NO NEED FOR SAND SHOVELS… AND NO NEED FOR WATER BUCKETS !!!
2. THE WATER SYSTEM HOLDS 28 GALLONS .BECAUSE IT IS CONNECTED TO THE CITY WATER SUPPLY, IT IS AUTOMATICALLY BEING REFILLED. ONCE THE AMOUNT OF REQUIRED WATER IS SET BY THE MASONRY FOREMAN…EACH TIME THE TANK IS OPENED, THE SAME AMOUNT OF WATER IS DISPENSED…AND THEN THE TANK IS AUTOMATICALLY REFILLED.
4. LOOKING AT THE SAND DRUM FROM THE LOADING SIDE, WE SEE THE DRUM’S OPENING IS FACING UP…THIS ALLOWS THE SAND TO FLOW/FILL THE DRUM WITH 6 CUBIC FT.
5. THE CHROME WHEELS CONTROL THE DRUM’S ROTATION FROM EITHER SIDE OF THE UNIT. 3.5 REVOLUTIONS MOVE THE DRUM FROM THE FILL POSITION TO THE MIXER DUMP POSITION. THE SAND DRUM DELIVERS 6 CUBIC FT OF SAND OR GROUT WITH EACH CYCLE DIRECTLY INTO THE MIXER’S DRUM…NO SAND SHOVELS NEEDED.
BECAUSE THE SAND DRUM CAN BE CONTROLLED FROM EITHER SIDE OF THE MIX-N-MASTER… WHEN THERE ARE STRONG WIND CONDITIONS, THE LABORER CAN SELECT THE LEAST DUSTY SIDE FROM WHICH TO OPERATE THE DRUM.
WORKER SAFETY IS A GREAT CONCERN AT MIX-N-MASTER.
6. LOADING THE BAGS OF MORTAR CAN EASILY BE DONE BY HAND…AS IT HAS BEEN FOR YEARS.
BECAUSE BACK INJURY HAS BECOME A MAJOR ISSUE WITH THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY, ELIMINATING MANUAL LIFTING WHEREVER POSSIBLE SHOULD BE OF GREAT IMPORTANCE.
MIX-N-MASTER NOW OFFERS THE BAG HANDLER ARM AS AN ACCESSORY. THE ARM IS AVAILABLE IN TWO DESIGNS…THE PNEUMATIC POWERED CYLINDER WITH A HAND PUMP OR THE HYDRAULICALLY OPERATED ARM, WITH 13’ HOSES AND COUPLINGS THAT USES THE MIXER’S HYDRAULIC SYSTEM AS A POWER PACK TO MOVE THE BAG HANDLER PLATFORM UP AND DOWN. THE LABORER SWINGS THE HINGE MOUNTED ARM BETWEEN THE MIXER’S DRUM AND THE PALLET OF BAG GOODS. THE POWER ARM FEATURE REDUCES THE THREAT OF BACK INJURY. WORKER SAFETY IS A GREAT CONCERN AT MIX-N-MASTER.
8. KEEPING THE MIX-N-MASTER CLEAN IS IMPORTANT. AN ON-BOARD WATER HOSE HELPS MAKE THIS JOB EASIER.
9. ALL THE SAFETY LOCKING PINS ARE HELD CAPTIVE TO THE UNIT WITH CABLES.
10. HERE WE SEE THE PRESET AMOUNT OF WATER BEING DISCHARGED THROUGH THE
TUBES, DIRECTLY INTO THE MIXER’S DRUM.
11. HERE WE SEE THE SAND DRUM THE DISCHARGE MODE.
1. PREPARING THE 6 CUBIC FT. BATCH: WHILE THE MIXER IS RUNNING AT MIX SPEED…
A. FIRST, ADD ALL THE WATER…10 TO 12 GALLONS ( THIS WILL BE PRESET
BY THE FORMAN ACCORDING TO THE MOISTURE IN THE SAND AT MIXING TIME )
THEN, BLEND THE BATCH FOR THE DESIRED AMOUNT OF TIME.
2. PREPARING THE 12 CUBIC FT. BATCH: WHILE THE MIXER IS RUNNING AT MIX SPEED…
A. FIRST, ADD ALL THE WATER… 20 TO 24 GALLONS OF WATER ( THIS WILL BE PRESET
BY THE FORMAN ACCORDING TO THE MOISTURE IN THE SAND AT MIXING TIME )
THEN, BLEND THE BATCH FOR THE DESIRED AMOUNT OF TIME.
3. PREPARING THE 18 CUBIC FT. BATCH: WHILE THE MIXER IS RUNNING AT MIX SPEED…
A. FIRST, ADD ALL THE WATER… 30-32 GALLONS OF WATER ( THIS WILL BE PRESET BY THE FORMAN ACCORDING TO THE MOISTURE IN THE SAND AT MIXING TIME )
THEN, BLEND THE BATCH FOR THE DESIRED AMOUNT OF TIME.
SO WHAT ARE THE “REAL” REASONS FOR THE MASON TO OWN A “MIX-N-MASTER” ?
FACT # 1 USING REGULAR HIGH QUALITY MATERIALS FROM YOUR BEST PRICED LOCAL SUPPLIER SAVES YOU MONEY.
FACT # 2 BECAUSE THE MIX-N-MASTER IS A VOLUMETRIC DISPENSER, EVERY BATCH IS THE SAME.
FACT # 3 BECAUSE THE SAND DISPENSING SYSTEM IS CONTROLLED BY THE SAND DRUM, THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF SAND IS ALWAYS PLACED INTO THE MIXER’S DRUM…
FACT # 4 THE WATER DISPENSING SYSTEM DELIVERS THE PRE-SET AMOUNT OF WATER IN LESS THAN 5 SECONDS…ALL DAY LONG…EVERYDAY!
FACT # 6 BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS PRESET, THERE IS NO INCREMENTAL LOADING OF SAND, MORTAR MIX, AND WATER INTO THE MIXER’S DRUM. THIS IS EFFICIENCY AT ITS BEST. MORTAR AND GROUT PRODUCTION HAVE NEVER BEEN EASIER OR BETTER !!!
FACT # 7 BECAUSE EACH BATCH IS EXACTLY THE SAME, YOUR LABORERS CAN TAKE A HIGH LEVEL OF PRIDE IN THE FRUITS OF THEIR LABOR BECAUSE THE QUALITY OF THEIR WORK IS AT THE HIGHEST STANDARD… AND THIS PLEASES THE ENGINEERS, ARCHITECTS, AND THE INSPECTORS. YOU WILL NEVER FAIL ANOTHER MATERIAL STRENGTH TEST !
FACT # 8 CONTROLLING DUST IS BECOMING AN IMPORTANT ISSUE ON EVERY MAJOR JOBSITE WHERE OSHA INSPECTORS ARE INVOLVED. DUST GENERATED WHERE MORTAR IS BEING MIXED IS AT THE LOWEST POSSIBLE LEVEL WHEREVER THE MIX-N-MASTER IS USED.
